SUBSTANCE

The Substance krew are a group of like minded party goers dedicated to bringing the freshest sounds to the Melbourne party scene. They endeavor to offer something fresh and different to their punters. Not adhering to current ’nightclub etiquette’, the Substance elite DJ krew showcase sounds from a plethora of different electronic genres and styles on any given event – giving their punters an orgasmic journey through the aural delights of EDM.

Substance don’t have to sell anything, the line up speaks for itself. A little bit of everything mixed in with a whole lot of fun. The formula to make the substance is simple. Start with concentrated breaks blended into Electro. Mix in a beaker of tech, a test tube of prog, a spatula full of minimal and a litmus test of trance and everything in between in what promises to be a fanatical night of auditory assault.

With a stellar line up of kick ass residents and a galaxy of local and Interstate special guests throughout the year Substance is guaranteed to bring you nothing more than a good time. So keep your eye’s on the look out and your ears to the ground as we lay down some serious sounds!

MIXED MESSAGES

The Mixed Messages philosophy centers on cultivating new concepts in dance music culture and evolving current trends in the way that dance music is created, played and enjoyed. We acknowledge that any subculture has the ability to magnify human foible and virtue. Moreover, we seek to uphold the integrity of dance music culture by readily embracing the power that our industry has to make positive changes that extend to the wider community. We do this through the emphasizing a high-quality club product and rejecting the aspects of club culture that compromise the characteristically underground notion of being ‘all about the music’.

Our music policy steps outside the restriction of genre and defies the popular notion of playing only club anthems. Our DJs are encouraged to consider a Mixed Messages party as an opportunity to exhibit their art through structuring sets that could not be heard anywhere else. A Mixed Messages DJ reads the room and responds by taking everyone present on a journey of sound, infused with their own signature style which keeps people coming back weekend after weekend. The appeal for a DJ to play a Mixed Messages party has enabled us to secure the best DJs from each genre that is definitive of the Melbourne underground sound. We have an unrivaled artist roster for our regular nights and carefully tailor our touring line-ups to best suit the hosting venue.

Have just confirmed that I’ll be joined by VJ Pied Piper for my upcoming gig supporting Solid Light @ Loop Bar. As most would be aware, Loop Bar is one of the best venues in Melbourne for in-house visuals, so im pretty amped that VJ Pied Piper has agreed to offer up his talents for the duration of my set. He’s a highly talented VJ with experience VJing for some of the best in the world: Ricardo, Sasha, Jeff mills, Q-bert, Dillinja, Naughty by Nature, Stanton Warriors, Andy C, Green Velvet, Infusion, Itchy and Scratchy.

Needless to say, he’ll be offering up some extremely awesome visuals and will definitely not disappoint! Im actually slightly nervous that his visuals will be more interesting than what I’ll be playing… haha

Anyway, check out his Myspace page for more.

Full info on the gig HERE.

After smashing shit sideways for his debut live performance, Solid Light is bringing back the Bad-Party krew to offer up another night of high quality electronic beats. This time it’ll be at the well established LOOP bar – situated in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. Expect a night of fantastic music, great company and tripped out visuals. I’ll be offering up some dance-floor friendly beats covering everything from lush prog to thumping tech-house.

Bad-Party Records & Loop Present….

SOLID LIGHT(Live), HEY PRESTO, J-SLYDE & BRONSON.

Built from over two hundred thousand different sounds and samples, this Solid Light live performance will be generously accompanied by a rhythmic visual production – recently filmed in outback Northern Territory. The debut performance for Solid Light has been eagerly anticipated by a huge fan base residing in northern Micronesia. As it is near impossible to commute to the small group of islands just north of the equator, Dan Steele AKA Solid Light will play his first live performance at the I.D.G.A.F.F. Hotel in Abbotsford instead. Joining the electronic experimentalist will be DJ’s: Hey Presto (Newcastle), J-Slyde and Bronson. DANNY BONNICI BIO:

Recently name checked as “one of the hottest names in dance music” by DJ Mag, over the past 6 years Danny Bonnici has been at the forefront of the world’s dance music scene. Working with his band Nubreed to bring people the sound of now, Danny has amazed audiences with his raw stage presence and crowd-pleasing performances. Now as a solo artist he’s truly coming into his own with I-DJ Mag, Ibiza Online and DJ Mag all signing praises for his world-class production/engineering & dj’ing. What we know as true, they know also know: Danny delivers the goods; with his own style of dirty 4/4. Danny’s collaborative efforts saw him co-produce the 2003 hit “Ride” with friend Luke Chable, this tune was a huge hit in the scene giving Danny international recognition further to his efforts with Nubreed.

With his own release “Return to Saturn” featured on Luke Chable’s 2006 Renaissance cd and its solid vinyl release to follow short after, such tight productions have seen Danny nominated for a Dance Music Award and an Aria Award in previous years. He has also done collaborations with producer renowned producer and engineer Andy Page – the result of which Vermouth appears on the Nubreed Y4K. With a string of original and remixed works under his belt Danny’s music is being played by the biggest Djs in the world including Sasha, John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo and too many more to even mention. Danny Bonnici has been involved in releasing three mix compilations in 2006, all of which have been received with applause from the dance music press. The first with Nubreed for Distinctive Y4K saw them tour Australia nationally in support of the compilation. The second, for popular local label Stomp’s Electric Series saw King Unique take on one CD, whilst Danny (as part of Nubreed) took on the other. The third was a mix compilation with Luke Chable for new Australian label Hiddenform.

His love of production and engineering has meant he’s quick on the uptake of new technology as Danny has become one of the first Australian DJ’s to exclusively use Ableton Live in his DJ sets and not just in the studio. Taking what he’s learnt on the road back to the studio again, Danny is one of the only qualified Ableton Live teachers in the country. His recent endorsement agreement with the company in Australia means that Danny is one of 4 Australian producer/ DJs to be featured by the company as their preferred endorsee and Artist of choice to support. This year he has been devastating dance floors across the country from Sydney to Melbourne, Cairns & Perth and Asia, Europe and the USA. In fact, 2007 has been the year in which Danny has made leaps and bounds into new musical realms, along the way firmly establishing himself as a strong solo artist/engineer in his own right.

Just a quick one to get the word out that I am extremely keen to land myself some more gigs. After a massive break from gigging, and the scene in general, whilst I moved house and sorted some shit out, I am now settled and ready to jump back on board. I’m not fussy with where I play or to what type of crowd – as long as they appreciate what I play, I’m content.

Fee’s are highly negotiable dependent on the type of event. So please don’t hesitate to contact me for further information. If your interested to hear the type of music I play head on over to the Mixes page. There’s 2 recent sets, one DnB and one Prog, that will give you a good idea of where my interests lay. If you’d like to hear more you can also head on over to my old mix page HERE and check out a heap of older mixes from the past few years.

Im not really one to talk myself up and I hate sucking up to promoters to land gigs – I prefer to score them on my own merits and let my music do the talking. So if you have the a spare moment please give them a listen. If you like what you hear, please help spread the word – drop a link Facebook or burn a CD for a friend. Every little bit helps.

Peace.
