Mahala 1st Bday – March 4 @ Railway Hotel
Jody has played such a big part in my education of electronic music. Way Out West were one of the first groups that introduced me to the progressive and melodic side of electronic music, helping to motivate me to later take up DJing. I can still remember when I first discovered their music; raving at Hard Kandy every week, slowly beginning to find myself less interested in what was being played in the club (no reflection on the club of-course!) and doing my best to find every excuse to leave the nightclub and head to the car so I could blast their music.
Even now seeing where Jody has progressed, not only with his and Nick’s Way Out West project, but also as a solo artist, it’s pretty fucking amazing. I don’t think many music artists, electronic or not, could boast to having such a long and varied career.
Without shitting on too much longer, I just wanted to say that I couldn’t think of a better artist to help celebrate Mahala’s first birthday and am so honored and excited to be on-board for the ride. This is going to be something really special. 😀 <3
From humble beginnings Mahala has always been about sharing the music we love with those that get it. Those that get us. Our tribe.
That ethos has carried through to the way we run our parties. Each performer, artist and patron is part of this tribe and we endeavour to ensure that they feel that way.
On March 4th we are celebrating our first year of running parties at a venue who has welcomed us with open arms, The Railway Hotel in Brunswick. There aren’t many multi-roomed venues that provide such a wonderfully holistic experience. Intimate places to chill, a funky courtyard and a world class main room; it’s the perfect venue for what we want to do.
Our guest Jody Wisternoff is the king of ass-shaking fun and incessant groove. Alongside Nick Warren as the formidable Way Out West, they were kings of the progressive realm (with a new album on the way!). Once that moment passed Jody has adapted and transformed his sound to a more modern palate. Dreamy melodies and nasty bass lines are abundant and we’re thrilled to have him back in Melbourne for the first time in years.
From the bottom of our hearts we thank every single person who has been on this ride with us, you make all the hard work worthwhile and it is for you that we do this. We hope you can join us for this celebration!
Much love,
Mahala
